Nó có khả năng làm sạch mũi hiệu quả và giúp làm loãng dịch mũi. Ngoài việc sử dụng dưới dạng nước nhỏ mũi, cha mẹ cũng có thể sử dụng NaCl dạng phun xịt để làm sạch và thông mũi.
Khi sử dụng thuốc xịt mũi Glucocorticoid như Becotide, Nasacort, hoặc Flixonase có thể sử dụng cho trẻ em trong trường hợp viêm mũi dị ứng nhưng không nên sử dụng chúng một cách dài hạn, vì việc sử dụng lâu dài có thể ảnh hưởng đến sức khỏe của trẻ, như gây suy tuyến thượng thận.
